I like to read really good books - anything that's really great, whether it's fiction, non-fiction, how-to, or whatever.
I read very widely, both non-fiction and fiction, so I don't think there's a single writer who influences me.
Anything I've ever read by John Irving has been really well written.
I couldn't think of anything more pointless than reading a piece of fiction written by a robot.
Generally, I read nonfiction. There's very little fiction that I enjoy enough to spend my time reading. I am generally a nonfiction guy.
I've worked too hard and too long to let anything stand in the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down and I will not let myself down.
I tend to read more nonfiction, really, because when I'm writing I don't like to read other fiction.
Writing is writing, and stories are stories. Perhaps the only true genres are fiction and non-fiction. And even there, who can be sure?
I always squirm when I read what's called 'creative nonfiction,' and the writer is lobbing gobs of emotion and language at the world, hoping some of it will stick.
