When I think about a character, it does start with the shoes: What kind would she wear? How would she walk in them?
For me, when I picture the person I want to end up with, I don't think about what their career is, or what they look like. I picture the feeling I get when I'm with them.
She tries to get a waitressing job for a while - I mean, she's looking for a while before she finds Coyote Ugly - and it's hard to get a waitressing job in the city.
If a movie has more characters than an audience can keep track of, the audience will get confused and lose interest in the story.
One thing I hate in movies is when the camera starts circling around the characters. I find that totally fake.
Unfortunately, with men's health, we don't talk about it enough, and prostate cancer gets lost in the conversation.
When for so long you can't get a job for reasons that seem specious, you you finally do have it, you are constantly afraid of losing it.
But I always wanted my characters to be more than cyphers for the failings of their world. And I never had to look too hard to find a part of myself in them.
I do constantly get to change the way I look, which is sort of an old-school idea of acting.
