I'm a pretty decent writer. It comes easy to me. I don't agonize over sentences. I write like I talk. I try to make them good books.
While in the middle of writing a book, I have a hard time reading other books for pleasure.
I have written a book. This will come as quite a shock to some. They didn't think I could read, much less write.
I often feel like not writing! Sometimes I overcome it by just sitting there until writing happens. Sometimes I don't write, because books often need periods of percolation.
My problem is never ideas. I've got more than I'll ever have time to write. It's all about how many I can get to, and which ones readers want to see the most.

Peter Lucas and I live in Durham but spend a great of time in North Wales, where we have a cottage in the mountains, and in Vermont, USA, with my sister - who is a children's writer married to a poet.
I write from my imagination, not from what I've read in books or seen on TV or to make money. I wrote from an idea I was passionate about.
