Once you get into your stride, the camera becomes like another person in the room. It's like being in a very small theatre where there is no getting away with anything because the audience is centimetres away from you.
I'm conflicted with theater in the city because you want to reach a diverse audience, and that audience doesn't typically go to the theater.
Everybody can relate to that feeling that, 'I'm having one of those days where I'm not doing anything right.'
Anyone who says they want to make a game that becomes a cult classic is kinda screwy, right? I mean, you want to reach the largest audience you can.
The audience will make you feel like a demigod. But when you leave the stage, get back to being human.
When I got to filmmaking, the most democratic of environments where anybody could say anything, those were the best environments, but what you don't want to assume is that you know what the audience is thinking.
I've never been one to sit back and go, 'I'd better do what the audience wants me to do, because I don't want to lose them.'
When I'm directing films, I mostly try to create an environment on set that mimics what's in my mind as to the tone and feel of things. I try to create a place where you feel that anything's possible.
A bank is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain.
