What's exciting about watching a movie, when it's finished, is you sometimes you don't recognize yourself, and that's when I'm really proud.
I'm not really crazy about broad comedy. I like very possible, real situations that you might have found yourself in.
I've learned that maybe sometimes it's better to show people who you are and what you are thinking about. That way, you can be more relaxed with yourself.
I try to watch only real things, which basically amounts to C-Span for me. I like real people in real situations. I learn from that.
Sometimes, you have to remind yourself that some people are just trying to find something to eat.
Whenever you're telling a story about true-life events and about real people, there's a tremendous responsibility-slash-burden to get it right.
You must do as your people do. If my people are poor, I must be poor. People ask me, 'Why don't you find a personal coach or a private car?' I can't. Then I won't be part of my people.
No matter what side of an argument you're on, you always find some people on your side that wish you were on the other side.
There are definitely a lot of roles I didn't get based off of the way I look, but I'm not going to let that stop me. I'm going to write stories for myself or work with filmmakers who want to tell stories about real people.
