I've always been able to be firm, to talk my way out of sticky situations. Bullies at school. Attempted muggings.
We have run out of creativity for children and teachers alike in the name of pushing up standards.
The amazing thing is that I'm sane. I'm not bitter. I'm not drugged out. I'm not broke. I'm still married to the same guy. My children don't hate me.
There's something about the Foreign Service that takes the guts out of people.
