I play guitar, bass, drums, piano, and pretty much any sort of stringed instrument - besides violin or cello.
Producers like to record all the drums first, then they do the bass, then all the guitars, so you're constantly moving from one song to another.
If you like an instrument that sings, play the saxophone. At its best it's like the human voice.
Usually I can hear the pianos, the saxophone, and usually I can hear Ronnie. But I really need to listen to Keith and Mick. The rest of the band is sort of an embellishment to that.
I did the first 'Oxygene' on an 8 tracks tape recorder with very few instruments, with no other choice than being minimalist.
I've written lots of songs on the piano. My mother had a piano and it was the first instrument I played.
I think I'm a songwriter. I grab an instrument to make my body a song, but I'm not a player as such, maybe a little more on guitar, but certainly not piano.
The only instrument I can play is piano. Whenever I make songs at home, I play the piano and make them on the piano.
'Pain' is more indicative of what I like to do. I'm lyric-conscious. I like to tell stories, give advice. Instead of writing a 'Dear Abby' column, I do it on records.
