As an actor, that's the best thing you can do, really take people along on a story and tell them something.
Most of the time when people say something sounds like Steely Dan, and I listen to it, it doesn't. And I'm not even sure what they're talking about.
I listen to a lot of songs, and they aren't talking about anything. I don't connect with them. I'll listen to something like Musiq Soulchild's 'Just Friends,' and I'm like, 'Wow, I really feel what he's talking about.' That's how I want people to feel about my music.
If you really think you have something good, you can't take no for an answer. You've got to get in there and ignore the people who say no.
I compliment people when I see something I really like and tell them, 'That was good. Keep doing what you're doing.' That's as much as advice as you will get out of me.
It's great to be in a film that's able to have people really want to become socially conscious, to walk out of the theatre and want to do something.
I love the way people talk crap. I hear it all the time. 'Overrated.' 'You suck.' I'll just do something to shut them up, like, 'I'll show you.'
I don't really believe in closure. That's something that writers talk about or people wished that they had.
I don't look at rushes, or I don't go to the dailies. I don't even really look at playback... unless it's an action scene or a move that I need to do better, something like that.
