I have a theory... that someplace at the heart of most compelling stories is something that doesn't make sense.
Sometimes there's something that a writer doesn't see or a producer doesn't see when he's looking at a shot.
I don't like to reduce a role to fit me. The challenge to me is to expand to it. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. But that's the challenge of it.
I don't have a great eye for detail. I leave blanks in all of my stories. I leave out all detail, which leaves the reader to fill in something better.
I think part of the problem sometimes is that there's so much happening in my books, to whittle it down into a single script is hard.
Sometimes I'll go down a path, and I'll just pray that something's going to come to get me out of this path that I'm on.
I think sometimes people are scared to change. Sometimes people are scared to do something different, especially if they've been successful at something.
Sometimes in the most tragic situation, something just profoundly funny happens.
You've got to get as literal as you can get to convince people sometimes that you can do something.
