I don't paint the town red. But when I do go out, people always want to touch my hair. It happens every time.
Often it's the people who know a place least well who write about it best because they see it fresh.
I know little stories that happen to people around me, and I can repeat that in a way that has some color.
I used to paint landscapes without any people in them but now I paint people who happen to be in a particular place. They might be outside a pub, or on a beach or in a studio. They might have clothes on or they might not.
But with 9/11, we found that people tended to come back to the networks and the people who had been our core viewers in the past came back and they have stayed with us.
All of our actions have consequences whether we know it or not. We never know what people are going through until something tragic happens - if they don't talk about it.
People want to know and understand each other across lines of race, class, gender, sexuality, ability.
I know I'm really good at writing for the theater. I can deny it all I want. Other people can fight me on it. It doesn't really matter. It's the thing I happen to know is my gift.
Joanna points her camera at a section of society unused to having cameras pointed at it. But I don't know about categorizing them in terms of class; I'm a bit wary of that. My dad is the son of a shipbuilder.
