I'm not really part of that 'L.A. thing' or that celebrity culture. I'm more like someone who observes it, and I can't ever imagine being like that.
Celebrity culture is something that pains me.
It's a feeling you get. You could have a hundred actors reading for one part, and they could all be spectacular, but one sticks out for some reason.
If I had my way, all actors over 55 would be issued a 3-lb. wet salmon with which to slap the face of every young, beautiful, successful upstart.
Don't be surprised if you find me doing some charity work in another country.
I had opportunities to be a lot more successful, but for some reason or other - the way I was particularly genetically wired - I turned down a lot of opportunities.
But I am very grateful for my success, and with success, of course, comes a whole lot of celebrity.
You don't want people who have never had to deal with adversity - you want people who have been able to deal successfully with adversity. That's what adds to society. Those are going to be the hardest-working, best people.
The biggest problems were to do with... well, to get that successful when you're so young, it attracts hangers-on, parasites, people who want to feed off you.
