No one told me I had to make something that would sell, but I personally want everyone to like my music.
I want to make my music a genre that people can immediately identify: something that never existed.
You know I want to sing for people, I want to jazz people up I want to make new music that they've never heard.
When people hear good music, it makes them homesick for something they never had, and never will have.
The last thing I want is for people to say that the music is nice. It's not nice. It sounds good, but it's got grit, and it's got edge. It never veers into sweet.
I never wanted anyone to think that I would use my family name to get me anywhere.
If I was doing a musical, I would never listen to the cast album, because I wanted to do my version of something.
I would hate to make music and people love me for something that isn't me.
The fact that I'm on CNN today is something I never would have guessed as a 13-year-old - or any other age, for that matter.
