I was an observer. I liked to listen rather than openly express myself. This trait is something that I've retained over the years.
I sometimes feel that if your book sells more than 20 years, then there's something in it that you can say, gee, I did something that endures, that's timeless.
What you look for in a picture is a metaphor, something that means something more, that makes you think about things you've seen or thought about.
