I'm pretty much a thrift shop gal. Flea markets on Sundays.
A crash really occurs when you suddenly have a violent downturn in the market that then heralds a long bull market.
I don't believe that a lot of the things I hear on the air today are going to be played for as long a time as Coleman Hawkins records or Brahms concertos.
There was a report that used to come out back in those days, I don't know if it was the Gavin Report or something like that. And they said, no matter what McGuire comes out with next, we're not gonna play it.
Lots of times when I'm offered things, I can't see how a story gets filmed. Either it's too internal or it doesn't have a strong spine.
But I'd play on everything from pop records to a lot of the glam stuff to rock stuff to classical stuff. I used to get called to do all those things, it was great.
Even as a child I had a strong relationship with yearning and desire. And loss. Those things spoke to me.
I always say, 'If it looks good on a T-shirt, it would probably be a pretty cool title or cool song.'
My parents used to play me this album when I couldn't go to sleep. It was called 'Deep Forest.' I think it was a self-titled record. It's actually still one of my favorite albums of all time.
