I have played my fair share of bad guys, or at least the nemesis.
I got history solidly under my belt, reading Russian history and biographies. I couldn't change the facts. I could only play with how the people might have responded to the facts of their lives.
I played a really good guy for two years on 'Homeland,' and I was champing at the bit to play a bad guy.
At this point, I don't get hired a lot because people don't think I could finance a movie.
In film roles, I play a lot of heavies and a lot of bad guys, so I tend to be the jokester and the good-time Charlie on the set.
The most fun is to play clubs, because you actually get to see the people.
When I first finished 'Sharpe,' it was hard to get work because people only saw me as him.
I just go in my back garden. It's the only place where people don't come and bother you.
Through all the bad guys that I've played, they're justifiably bad - they have their reasons. It's been important to me.
