You've got to learn your instrument. Then, you practice, practice, practice. And then, when you finally get up there on the bandstand, forget all that and just wail.
And after you've done the acting, there's a lot of places you can put your input - in the editing, in the production of it, in the rewriting of it and so on.
Music is such an incredibly affecting part of any movie-going experience, and it just... it shapes your whole experience.
So from an actor's perspective, you really have no idea how you're acting.

Just by being out you're doing your part. It's like recycling. You're doing your part for the environment if you recycle; you're doing your part for the gay movement if you're out.
When you act with phenomenal actors, it makes your job much easier because all you have to do is react.
It's pretty traumatic knowing that your instrument that's your career isn't working, and you've got to have an operation.
