You will find as you grow older that courage is the rarest of all qualities to be found in public life.
There are things that I won't do on the radio. I mean, the next logical question is, what won't you do. I say, well, you know, you've got to find out when you're on the air.
I wouldn't listen to my parents, but I found out that I absorbed. I never heard what they said - told me - but I did what they did.
A lot of people give up just before they're about to make it. You know you never know when that next obstacle is going to be the last one.
I would dare say that most anyone in public life, if they stay in public long enough, is not treated fairly.
There are epic downsides to living a somewhat public life. The upshot of that is there's nothing to hide. It's a relief in a way. There's nothing about me that can't be said.
I step into a character in my public life. People who don't make that distinction are dooooomed.
All I know is, I think I would like to continue to do public service.
I would advise anyone starting out as a singer/songwriter to play live as much possible. You never know who might be in the audience.
