This is my chance to get out there and appease the fans of my music as well as show people that I do do standup comedy because a lot of people don't know that's where I started.
I tell myself that if I start to listen to these people and start to let them decide how I should behave and what I should do, then this is not my life - it's theirs.
There were very few women comics when I started out doing stand-up. But I always saw that as a great advantage.
So many times I should've stopped or could've stopped and didn't stop... So many kinds of people can get depressed and sad, and you know what? Everyone has that talent, that gift.
Being a stand-up comic, this isn't a stepping-stone for me; it's what I do, and this is what I'm always going to do. And even if I do a TV show, the only reasons to do a TV show is to get more people to know me to come out to my stand-up shows.
People ask me how I keep my figure, and I tell them it's because I paint. When you're covered in paint, it's quite hard to put food in your mouth!
'Can't Stop the Music' has become a cult film. It's kind of shocking to me. People come up to me all the time and say, 'I just saw it!'
I started out as a box boy. You know, I didn't go to college, and I did well in supermarkets.
There are consequences if you stand up for what you believe. Heck, you might - you might lose your sponsors if you're a talk show host; or if you're running for office, you know, people not give to you or people might not vote for you.
